Abby Willets | R+D Engineer

Abby joined the team as an R&D Engineer in March of 2022. Since childhood, she has had a fascination with how to take things apart and then put them back together to see how they work. This natural curiosity towards functionality led her to MIT, where she received her degree in Mechanical Engineering.

With a breadth of experience from developing helicopter avionics to building furniture to designing breweries, Abby hopes to bring her passion for constant improvement and always seeking a better, cheaper and more efficient way of doing things.

Originally hailing from New Hampshire, Abby traded in her boots for flip flops and now works remotely from New Orleans. When not expanding her DIY portfolio, Abby enjoys disc golf, craft beer and cheering on the Red Sox.

 
 

Ami Nieto | Human Resource Director

What if we could create a workplace where everyone feels confident, valued, and inspired?

As the Human Resources Director at Green Canopy NODE, Ami manages both the day-to-day HR operations and the strategic leadership initiatives that shape the company's future. With over a decade of experience in HR and a bachelor’s degree in International Business from San Francisco State University, she leverages her background to drive operational efficiency while fostering a culture of growth and leadership development. In Green Canopy NODE's dynamic environment, Ami is dedicated to helping the team thrive today while building toward tomorrow.

Outside of work, Ami finds balance through a mix of creative and mindful activities. She maintains her energy through regular strength training and walking while listening to leadership podcasts. Aromatherapy and painting help her unwind and fuel her creativity. When she's not exploring new ideas, Ami stays busy keeping up with a lively preschooler, who always keeps her on her toes!

 
 

Bec Wilder (Chapin) | CEO, Co-Founder

Bec combines their vision for creating the world we know is possible with their background in sustainability, prefab, technology, construction, and development. Bec loves building teams to generate and operationalize creative solutions to move away from scarcity paradigms, fossil fuels, and the housing shortage; towards sustainability, abundance and love.

Originally from the northeast, Bec moved to the West Coast to learn how to build green buildings. Quickly Bec joined a custom modular prefab company engaging with the promise and opportunity of prefab building. Bec earned an MBA in Sustainable Systems from Bainbridge Graduate Institute (Presidio Graduate School). From there, Bec helped companies and leaders build stronger, more effective teams before joining Don Bunnell as a founder of NODE, a construction technology start-up creating software enabled prefab components for fast, sustainable, and cost effective house assembly.

Bec is fueled by scaling construction products to bring sustainable affordable housing to everyone and the company wide innovation coming from everyone on the team.

 
 

Clinton Fry | Senior Estimator

Clinton has been with Green Canopy NODE since January of 2015 and a Senior Estimator since June of 2017. He has 30+ years of residential construction experience in a wide range of disciplines. Clinton likes being outdoors and can be found hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping.

 
 

Genevieve Hale-Case | Development Manager

Genevieve joined Green Canopy NODE in April 2024. She brings a depth of experience managing construction and real estate development projects across the public, private and non-profit sectors. She’s a deep believer in the power of the built environment to shape the way that people and communities connect and thus has spent much of her career focused on community-centered and community-serving projects. Genevieve holds dual Master’s degrees in Commercial Real Estate Development and Urban Planning from the University of Washington. She spends much of her free time outdoors, playing in the mountains or working on her garden.

 
 

Emily Butterfield | Marketing Manager

Emily joined the team in January of 2019. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a bachelor’s in Advertising and Public Relations and a minor in International Studies. Her professional interests lie in using marketing a means of advocacy, primarily in sustainability and human rights. Her past positions include work in graphic design, communications, social media management, and videography. In her free time, some of her favorite activities include hiking, thrifting, and playing with her cats.

 
 

Greg Lotakis | VP of Integration

Greg grew up in Alaska, playing in the outdoors and staying through his BS in Civil Engineering at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Seeing environmental change in real time he felt called to move toward the built environment and renewable energy in order to put his heart towards reducing human impact on our planet.

Greg completed his MBA in Sustainable Business in 2011 and was on the development team of Grow Community Bainbridge (one of the largest Built Green and Solar PV Communities in Washington State). He has been with Green Canopy NODE since April of 2019.

Along with working with the Green Canopy NODE team Greg loves being active + outside, playing hockey, and adventuring with his wife and dogs.

 
 

Hannah Kirshenbaum | Accounting Manager

Hannah re-joined the stellar accounting team in June of 2021. She has an undergrad degree in Psychology and Zoology from the University of Washington. She has held management positions in a variety of business sectors including healthcare & research, IT, consulting, nonprofit, and home building. When not working, Hannah likes to walk the green and muddy trails with her two dogs and her husband.

 
 

Jacob Thackray | Project Engineer

Jacob joined Green Canopy NODE in September 2024, fueled by his passion for construction. He studied Construction Management at the University of Washington and brings valuable experience from his work with innovative companies. Jacob is committed to driving change in the building industry to create better community-oriented developments.

Outside of work, you can find Jacob sailing, skiing, camping, traveling, or dreaming up new ideas for urban improvements.

 
 

Jessica Tranquada | Senior Design Project Manager

Jessica joined the design team in February 2018 and has a degree in Architecture from Cornell University. With 6+ years of experience designing multifamily housing in Seattle, she enjoys tackling difficult sites and creating thoughtful interior spaces for our future homeowners. After work she can be found at the barn with her horse, Tahoe.

 
 

Justin Hooks | Vice President, Construction

Justin is an experienced professional in construction management with over a dozen years of diverse responsibility in commercial and residential construction project management. He is responsible for the overall management of Green Canopy NODE’s construction program, and he works closely with the entire team to ensure the comfort, beauty, and successful completion of every Green Canopy NODE Home.

 
 

Evan Welch | Project Manager

Evan graduated from the University of Vermont in 2011 with a major in Sociology and double minor in Green Building Design and Community and International Development. He has 5 years of combined experience in residential energy conservation and solar retrofits. Evan joined the Green Canopy NODE team in 2017 after completing a Masters Degree in Sustainability and Environmental Management from the Harvard Extension School. Evan applies his knowledge of the whole home approach to his responsibilities as a site supervisor. When Evan is not working to make a difference in our built environment, he can be found skiing, biking, and exploring the outdoors.

 
 

Ryan Nieto | VP Operations

Ryan started working at Green Canopy NODE in December 2011 and has spent the last 10 years developing and applying his mechanical skills and systems driven thought process to the world of residential construction. Armed with a keen eye, knowledge of air movement, thermal transfer and building science, Ryan is now building processes and programs that allow Green Canopy NODE to systematically fight the war against unintended air infiltration and heat loss within their homes. His love for the outdoors and mountain air drives him to inspire others to build homes that are healthy for both people and the environment.

 
 

Mark Grismer | Director of Development, Portland

Mark's interest in the dynamics between people and the built environment led him to an undergraduate degree in Urban Studies and Planning, and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning. He has held internships in the non-profit and public sectors and started his professional career in housing development and construction in 2011. Prior to joining Green Canopy NODE in June of 2018, Mark worked for both private and publicly traded home builders in California and Oregon. Mark is an Earth Advantage Sustainable Homes Professional, a Portland Neighborhood Tree Steward, and holds a Minorities in Commercial Real Estate certificate from Project REAP. Outside of work Mark enjoys spending time with this family and friends, sports, outdoor rec, music, and travel. Over the past two decades Mark has explored 50+ countries.

 

Nina Milligan | Associate Project Manager

Nina joined Green Canopy / NODE in June 2021. A long-time advocate for Built Green and other sustainability efforts in the built environment, Nina has served as an elected official in local government and is active today in policy and planning. She brings a wide range of commercial business experiences that share a common thread of building strong relationships through clear communications and reliable customer service.

Nina was honored with a Community Builder Award for her work in Issaquah Highlands, a large-scale 100% Built Green master-planned community in Washington State.
When away from her desk, you may find her hiking or gravel biking near her home in the foothills of the Western Cascades. Nina is also an avid reader of period English novels and loves to study film adaptations of classic literature.

 
 

Sam Lai | Chief Development Officer, Co-Founder

Sam is a co-founder of Green Canopy NODE. With two decades of experience as a Licensed and Certified Residential Appraiser in Washington and Oregon he has provided valuation, consulting and analytic services for over $3B in FDIC and private real estate construction loans and transactions.  

As the Chief Development Officer, Sam directs development on behalf of Green Canopy NODE, its funds, investors and clients including over $400M in Seattle and Portland area residential projects. Sam is a graduate of the University of Washington and has an MBA with an emphasis on social and environmental sustainability from Presidio Graduate School and Bainbridge Graduate Institute. 

 
 

Darrin Griechen | VP of Product

 Darrin grew up on his father’s construction sites. His earliest memories are of “helping” his dad by starting nails with his tiny hammer in what later he would understand was blocking. He did just about every job including hauling debris, framing, and eventually cabinetry. He double majored in architecture and philosophy at the University of Idaho, where he was President of the AIAS and awarded the AIA’s Henry Adams Medal. His professional experience runs the gamut from urban design, commercial and residential architectural practice, teaching and conducting research at Washington State University, to leading engineering teams designing solutions for prefabricated construction. He holds several patents for construction innovations. Since October of 2020 he has focused his curiosity and creativity to lead our product group as we seek to transform the industry. When he’s not working he’s likely to be found in the wilderness backpacking, snowshoeing, and fly fishing.

 
 

Benjamin Hall | Product Manager & Designer


Benjamin joined the team in February 2020. Growing up as the son of a home builder and studying architecture, he developed a passion for the built environment that is people-centric with an emphasis on sustainability. He is driven by the challenge of making high-quality, regenerative designed homes affordable.

Following seven years in the Air Force, Benjamin began his career in architecture, completing projects in the fields of education, public architecture, historical preservation, and custom single-family. Benjamin has worked on residential projects for the nation’s leading residential developers.

In addition to his architecture work, Benjamin co-founded the humanitarian design nonprofit, Formm. Formm designs, funds, and builds schools abroad. Most notably, Formm has completed schools in Burkina Faso and is working to complete its revised school design.

Benjamin has served on municipal boards, as an adjunct instructor for architectural design, and as a consultant for nonprofits. He is a self-starter who feels at home with the ambiguous nature of the start-up world.

 
 

Sadie Carlson | Building Scientist

Sadie joined the team in January 23 with a background in Architecture and sustainability consulting, working on a broad range of projects spanning copper mining, urban planning, state policy advocacy, and corporate strategy. Sadie specializes in LCA modeling and material science with a passion for climate/energy policy and urban economics. Outside of work, she loves painting, reading, and making a fool of herself singing at a Karaoke bar or rocking out to live music.

 
 

Mark Schulz | Senior Site Superintendent

Mark Schulz joined Green Canopy NODE in 2024 with over 40 years of construction experience. Starting as a laborer with Union Local 242, he earned his journeyman carpenter certificate from the Construction Industry Training Council (CITC) in 1997. He then advanced to a supervisory role at Ledcor Industries, where he worked for over a decade.

After the 2008 recession, Mark shifted his expertise in heavy structural concrete and steel to commercial projects, including T-Mobile, Edward Jones, and H&R Block offices. Known for his wide range of construction skills and team-building abilities, Mark remains a valuable asset to Green Canopy NODE.

In his personal life, Mark enjoys racing fast cars and boats. He is a devoted father to two children, Teresa and Zachary.

 
 

Kyle Kutz | Senior Design Project Manager, Architect

Kyle has worked with Green Canopy since June of 2018 and has been practicing design and architecture for 9 years. Growing up he gained valuable experience in residential construction that led him to study architecture at the University of Kansas, where he received his master’s degree in Architecture. Kyle enjoys camping, remodeling his house and cheering on the Sounders. Kyle believes that humanity can be a force for good and remains hopeful that we can all come together to solve the many issues of our time.

 

Emily Dawson | Director

Emily is a licensed architect and implementer of bio-based structural solutions, working to make buildings behave more like plants and industries more like forests. She has been promoting mass timber since 2013, after designing the first Cross-Laminated Timber structure built in Oregon. Inspired by her experience with European mass timber, modular, and industrialized construction, Emily increasingly applies off-site fabrication approaches in her work. Successfully leading teams to innovate in multiple sectors has given her a holistic view of the construction industry, as well as a passion for breaking boundaries to promote innovation. Honoring a lifelong reverence for the intelligence of natural systems, Emily integrates circular economy principles in every project.

Emily founded Single Widget in 2022 to focus on low-carbon structural advancements through product development and built work. Her consulting firm Field Edge was established in 2024 to connect natural resources and regenerative industry-scale projects. She received her degree in Architecture from Cornell University in 2003.

 

Don Bunnell | Director

Don co-founded NODE and serves on the Green Canopy NODE board. Prior to starting NODE, Don founded the Harbor Foundation, a non-profit focused on providing opportunities to refugees, while he was chairman of Zenogen Pty, Ltd, a Sydney-based cleantech company. In 2003 Don co-founded Synthesis Energy Systems, Inc., a NASDAQ-listed clean energy company, where he served as an executive and on the company’s board until 2014. Before co-founding SES, Don was the Asia Business Development Vice President for BHP Billiton’s aluminum group. Don joined Enron China in 1997 as a Senior Manager and was promoted to General Manager, Vice President, and then China country manager. From 1995 to 1997, Don was a manager with Coastal Power Corp in Beijing. Don is a US-qualified lawyer and practiced law in Hong Kong.

 

Zach Nies | Director

For the past 25 years, Zach Nies has dedicated his work to exploring what enables teams to tackle humanity's toughest challenges while excelling in their careers. He has delved into this inquiry across startups, large corporations, and non-profits, wearing various hats as a founder, C-level executive, investor, and executive coach.

Currently, as the founder of Growing Lean, Zach focuses on assisting teams working on planet or society scale problems adopt entrepreneurial mindsets and high-performance habits that are proven to improve time to impact, decrease risk, and foster team wellbeing. Before putting his founder hat back on, Zach was an investor at Techstars and the Managing Director for their Sustainability Accelerator in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and the Boulder accelerator. Before Techstars, Zach was part of the executive team at Rally Software before its successful IPO, serving in various roles including CTO. Throughout his career, Zach's product and technical leadership has overseen products that have accounted for over $1 billion in revenue. As a founder of 4 companies and the survivor of many M&A transactions, Zach loves working with entrepreneurs from high-level strategy all the way down to the inner game of managing the psychology of the ups and downs of the experience. He has a computer science degree and extensive studies in psychology. When he’s not working with entrepreneurs, you can find him spending time with his family or looking through a camera.

 
 

Agata Fisiak | Design Project Manager

Agata joined Green Canopy NODE in October 2022. Throughout her 9 years of professional experience, she designed multiple institutional, public utility and multi-family residential buildings. She won three international architectural competitions and her portfolio includes fully completed projects in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Poland, Jordan and the US. Agata holds a BEng in Architectural and Urban Planning from Warsaw University of Technology. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling around the world.

 
 

Arturo Solorzano | Site Superintendent

Arturo started working with Green Canopy NODE in August 2022. Born in Mexico, when Arturo was in 9th grade he did an exchange program and was sent to England where he practiced his English. He also fell in love with traveling, meeting new people with different cultures and different backgrounds. As years passed, he spent time studying in Indiana, Utah, and Michigan. Arturo received a bachelor's degree in construction management from BYU.

While in school Arturo did multiple internships that help him develop as a builder. His last internship turned into a full-time job. While finishing school Arturo was a superintendent for a concrete company. When Arturo graduated, he accepted an offer as a project manager doing residential projects in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana.

 
 

Emily Tsourmas | Owner Services Representative

Emily joined Green Canopy Node April of 2022, and is excited to work with new and current homeowners as Green Canopy NODE's customer representative. Emily's background is in healthcare, but she took a leap to change careers and follow her passion for sustainable housing. In her free time loves to explore the small towns in the Pacific Northwest.

 
 

Britt Salmi | Project Manager

Britt is a seasoned estimator and project manager with over 16 years of experience in the PNW, working for custom, residential general contractors. Her passion for sustainability and purposeful building led her to join Green Canopy NODE in February of 2024. Britt is also a skilled equestrian and certified natural balance farrier, with a passion for teaching riding lessons and training horses. With a keen interest in psychology and human interaction, she pursued her undergraduate degree in 2013. Now residing in Sultan, WA, Britt, Tim (husband), and their two young daughters are focused on building the family's farm and creating a sanctuary for their pets.

 

Peter Orser | Director

Since 2016, Peter has served as director of Beazer Homes. From 2010-2014, Peter served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company, a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser Company, where he oversaw five different homebuilding operations across the United States. In July 2014, under his leadership, Weyerhaeuser completed the successful sale of the company. Prior to that, Peter spent almost 25 years in various positions at Quadrant Homes, a leading homebuilder in the state of Washington and a subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser, including serving as President from 2003 to 2010.  Peter is active in a number of other civic organizations, including serving as Vice Chair and Acting Director of the Runstad Real Estate Center Advisory Board at the University of Washington, and was recently appointed by the Governor to serve on the Washington State Affordable Housing Advisory Board. Peter holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Puget Sound and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Washington.

 
 

Nick Dahl | CNC Machinist/Programmer & Shop Manager

Nick started at Green Canopy NODE in November of 2022. Prior to working here, he was an aerospace machinist and department manager at an FAA-licensed repair station overhauling C130 propellers. With a degree in precision machining and manufacturing he has a background in CNC and conventional machining as well as facilities maintenance and logistics. Being a Washington native, he has shot landscape and still life photography all over the state. He is also a seasoned guitarist and likes to produce music in his free time. To relax he spends time in nature with his wife and daughter.

 
 

Rosalie Schlenk | Program Manager

Rosalie joined the team in December of 2019. Her passions for Human Centered Design, social impact, and sustainability intersect in creating new and innovative solutions to problems big and small. While Rose has mainly worked in residential modular prefab, her career also encompasses graphic design, data visualization, and design strategy. Rose holds Bachelor degrees in both Architecture and International Studies from Penn State with a minor in Environmental Inquiry, and has earned her Masters in Integrated Product Design from the University of Pennsylvania. In her free time, Rosalie loves tending to her many plants, organizing post-its into color gradients, and exploring Seattle’s street end parks.

 
 

Andy Wolverton | Co-Founder, Board Member

Andy is a third generation real estate manager and experienced finance professional. Andy previously managed all aspects of Green Canopy NODE’s capital, including his role managing the company’s real estate funds before transitioning to Cambia Capital and becoming a board member of Green Canopy NODE. He graduated summa cum laude from Seattle Pacific University, where he played on the men’s soccer team for four years. He is an avid mountain biker, runner, outdoor enthusiast, and he still enjoys playing soccer. Andy is a Beta Gamma Sigma graduate of the Executive MBA program at the University of Washington.
